Window Shopping
I kept passing through this small town in Indiana and felt a strong desire to return to explore it more deeply with my friend’s daughter, Chloe. She possessed a unique and captivating look, which I felt would complement my artistic vision within the small town backdrop. We arranged to meet early one crisp morning in Martinsville, a town rich with storied history and fascinating tales; to name a few; it was once known as a popular spa town and intriguingly, the goldfish capital of the United States . This compelling image was later judged by one of my heros the esteemed photographer Philip-Lorca diCorcia, who recognized it as a finalist in a Life Framer contest. In their feedback, they wrote thoughtfully about my picture:
“Titled simply ‘Window Shopping, Indiana’ Patrick’s portrait, whether candid or posed, is a beautiful evocation of urban ennui – perhaps seen as an apathy towards consumerism, but more likely the boredom of being a certain age in a small town of dusty furniture shops, soulless gas stations and limited possibilities. Brilliantly done.” – Life Framer
