Series: Blue Hole 2022

I had recently moved to Connecticut and was actively seeking an escape from the lush green trees, serene countryside, and charming stone walls that I have always appreciated so much. During my quest for tropical destinations and intriguing locations along the equator, I stumbled upon Dean's Blue Hole in the breathtaking Bahamas, which is recognized as the world's second deepest sinkhole, plunging down an astonishing 663 feet below sea level. The vibrant colors of the blue hole and its surrounding environment were absolutely incredible, with natural light shining bright and sharp, creating a stunning visual experience that was hard to forget. I centered my artistic series around Long Island, which requires another prop plane flight from Nassau to reach. This particular location felt both remote and untouched, with the mesmerizing natural phenomenon of the blue hole right at my doorstep, beckoning me to explore its depths. I decided to embark on a solo journey that lasted about a week, during which I dedicated myself to photographing the magnificent scenery from dawn until dusk every single day, eager to capture every moment. To my surprise, I even had the unique chance to meet William Trubridge at Dean's, who has formerly held the impressive title of the world's deepest free diver. He resides on the island, and I was truly fortunate enough to record his captivating story through audio at his home, in addition to capturing some large format 4x5 portraits of him; he was incredibly gracious and generous throughout the entire experience. As a result of this inspiring journey, the Blue Hole series came into being, consisting of hauntingly beautiful portraits of locals and striking landscapes that truly captured the very essence of the area, inviting viewers to experience the magic for themselves.
