Clay

from $350.00

Series: Club in the Country, 2020

This is from my lockdown series. During the pandemic, I played a lot of tennis in Bloomington, IN, at a wonderful red clay court club created by Ken and Barb from a horse field. I made a video with a voiceover about the club, and this image is from that project, which was featured in the Bloomington International Film Festival as a short documentary. See the film here.
I would often wake up early to capture the quiet moments at the club, focusing on what makes a clay court. This print shows the court's sweeping brush on the fence and the roller for cleaning the lines—essential tools for this type of tennis court. Tennis has been a significant part of my life, especially over the last 10 years, serving as my escape from daily life and a chance to unplug from my phone for a couple of hours.
